Kids Cooking Classes

Monthly kids cooking classes on Sundays from 4:00 - 6:30 pm at our new building begin in February 2025.

Classes teach students how to make cultural dishes that are fun and engaging! Taught by Kaoru and Mayumi featuring seasonal dishes such as Setsubun (a Japanese festival that marks the end of winter and the start of spring), Hinamatsuri (Girl's Day), and Kodomonohi (Children's Day)!

Class size is limited to a small group for the health and safety of those attending. A waitlist will be kept if the class becomes full. Class fees, which may vary with the food being prepared, cover the cost of all materials and ingredients.

February: Setsubun

Let's Celebrate Setsubun, the Japanese tradition marking the start of spring, by learning to make delicious seasonal foods!
Kids will enjoy making Ehomaki (Lucky Sushi Roll) and popular Japanese healthy snacks while exploring the cultural meaning behind this exciting celebration!

Learning Objectives

  • Japanese Culture: Understand the origins of Setsubun and the meanings behind traditions like throwing beans and making Ehomaki.

  • Personal Growth: Learn the art of making makizushi, and essential tips for ingredient preparation and rolling techniques.

March: Hinamatsuri

Celebrate Hinamatsuri, Japan's traditional Girls' Day, with a fun and interactive kids cooking class!
Children will learn to make festive dishes like Chirashizushi while discovering the cultural significance of this special day.

Learning Objectives

  • Japanese Culture: Discover the origins and cultural traditions of Hinamatsuri.
  • Personal Growth: Gain basic cooking skills, including safe knife handling and working with heat, while learning creative techniques for beautifully plating dishes.
