Home Support Services

JASC’s Home Support team sends trained, background-checked caregivers to help older adults and people with disabilities live safely at home. Care is free for seniors who qualify through the Illinois Department on Aging Community Care Program, and private pay is $30 an hour. We serve all of Cook County. JASC first offered chore and housekeeping help to older adults in the 1960s and 70s, for the first generation of Japanese Americans in Chicago. Today we welcome everyone. We are accepting new clients.

Every JASC caregiver is a paid, trained employee, not a volunteer. Each one passes a background check and a Health Care Worker Registry check, is interviewed by two JASC staff members, completes 24 hours of training over three days before their first visit, and is bonded. JASC Home Support is licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

JASC is also a provider for the Illinois Division of Rehabilitation Services Home Services Program (ages 18 to 59 with a disability) and for the VA.

JASC’s Private Client Program

In this program, JASC staff provide helpful homemaking services for people of all ages who need extra help at home. Examples of people who would use these services include pregnant women and new mothers, those too busy with life and career to keep up with household chores, those recovering from surgery or anyone else who needs help in their home.

Illinois Department on Aging’s Community Care Program

This program focuses on enabling older adults (age 60+) to remain independent and safe in their own homes, and delay or prevent nursing home or other residential placement. In this program, the State of Illinois covers the cost for eligible seniors, so there is nothing out of pocket for the family.

Services

These are the kinds of help that let your parent or grandparent stay independent at home. Our caregivers speak English, Japanese, Spanish, and Tagalog, and we bring in a translator when needed. We match clients with caregivers based on language and cultural background whenever possible.

The Private Client Program is for anyone who pays out of pocket: pregnant women, people recovering from surgery, busy professionals, and seniors who want extra help. The Community Care Program is funded by the Illinois Department on Aging and covers eligible seniors age 60+ at no cost to the family. A JASC case manager can help you figure out which fits.
