Donguri Kai – Youth Classes

Youth classes are for students in 6th grade – High School who are learning Japanese for the first time or continuing their studies.

Youth Class Offerings, Summer 2026

Mondays, 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm (Central Time)
This class is for students in 6th grade – High School students who will learn Japanese for the first time. Students learn Japanese vocabulary, phrases, and simple sentence structure. They will also learn to identify and read the Japanese alphabets; Hiragana and Katakana. Class is taught in English.

Format: Online (Google Meet)

Class Dates: 7/13, 7/20, 7/27, 8/10, 8/17 No class on 8/3

Class size: 6 students maximum

Fees: $125 for Members and $175 for Non-members

Instructor: Tomoko Hanna

Class size is limited to 6 – 8 students. Register early to ensure a spot for your child.

Akemi Taguchi（田口あけみ）

A journalist once said, “As a student, I learned from wonderful teachers, and ever since then I’ve thought everyone is a teacher.” I have been teaching children for the last 30 years both in Japan and the United States. I have taught both in the classroom and as a Japanese teacher, and I am now so fortunate to be part of a great community of learners and teachers here at Donguri Kai. I hope to enjoy our journey to learn about this wonderful Japanese language and culture.

Chizu Matsumura
I taught music and was a homeroom teacher of high school class for 8 years in Japan. The experience of teaching students at the high school became a foundation of my life. I am really looking forward to meeting new students and hope to support the students learn Japanese with fun!
