Youth classes are for students in 6th grade – High School who are learning Japanese for the first time or continuing their studies.
Youth Class Offerings, Fall 2024
Mondays, 5:15 pm – 6:00 pm (Central Time)
This class is for students in 6th grade – High School students who will learn Japanese for the first time. Students learn Japanese vocabulary, phrases, and simple sentence structure. They will also learn to identify and read the Japanese alphabets; Hiragana and Katakana. Class is taught in English.
Format: Online (Zoom)
Class Dates: 9/16, 9/23, 9/30, 10/7, 10,21, 10/28, 11/11, 11/18, 12/2, 12/9, 12/16
No Class On: 10/14, 11/4, 11/25

Wednesdays, 5:15 pm – 6:00 pm (Central Time)
This class is for students in 6th grade – High School students who will continue to strengthen their Japanese language skills. Students learn Japanese vocabulary, phrases, and simple sentence structure. They will use the Japanese alphabets of Hiragana and Katakana and build their Kanji vocabulary. Class is taught in English and Japanese.

Fridays 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm (Central Time)
This class is for students in 6th grade – High School students who are strong in reading, writing, and speaking Japanese. This class focuses on preparation for the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). Through practicing exam questions, students will develop skills to use practical Japanese grammar and phrases effectively.
This class is taught in Japanese and will challenge students to apply their skills as they continue to build more Japanese language ability.

Akemi Taguchi（田口あけみ）
A journalist once said, “As a student, I learned from wonderful teachers, and ever since then I’ve thought everyone is a teacher.” I have been teaching children for the last 30 years both in Japan and the United States. I have taught both in the classroom and as a Japanese teacher, and I am now so fortunate to be part of a great community of learners and teachers here at Donguri Kai. I hope to enjoy our journey to learn about this wonderful Japanese language and culture.
