Donguri Kai – Little Kids Classes
Little Kids classes are for students in K-2nd grade who are learning Japanese for the first time or have had early exposure to Japanese at home.
Little Kids Class Offerings, Winter 2026
Beginner I
Offered on Saturdays at two times allowing for more students to take the class – only register for one of the two classes.
Saturdays, 10:00 am –11:00 am (Central Time)
This class is for students starting K – 2nd grade in Fall 2025 who will learn Japanese reading and writing for the first time. Students learn Japanese vocabulary, basic greetings, and conversational phrases. Class is taught in English.
Format: In Person @ JASC (5700 N. Lincoln Ave.)
Class Dates: 1/17, 24, 31, 2/7, 14, 21, 28, 3/7, 14
Class size: 8 students maximum
Fees: $225 for Members and $315 for Non-members

This class is for students starting K – 2nd grade in Fall 2025 who will learn Japanese reading and writing for the first time. Students learn Japanese vocabulary, basic greetings, and conversational phrases. Class is taught in English.
Format: Online (Google Meet)

Class size: 6 students maximum
Fees: $225 for Members and $315 for Non-members

Intermediate
Saturdays, 10:00 am – 11:00 am (Central Time)
The class is conducted in Japanese only. In this class, students will build their ability to read and follow instructions in Japanese and practice natural conversation through hands-on projects. They will learn and use everyday vocabulary in context. In lunch-making activities, students will collaborate in Japanese to prepare and share meals. Each class includes an activity where students prepare and eat the lunch they make in order to foster deeper connections among friends who are learning Japanese.

Class size: 8 students maximum

Tomoko Hanna(ハンナ朋子)
I have been teaching English and Japanese to adults and children since 1995. As a mother of two who speaks the two languages, I deeply understand the need for bilingual education in the U.S. Currently, I sub Tampopo class, and teach Baby Tampopo class and Japanese program at Banner Preschool.
