Classes are on summer break. Below are general level descriptions. Fall session information will be posted late summer.

Level 4 is for students from 1st to 7th grades who are fluent in  reading, writing, and speaking. Students practice their bilingual skills in various projects, contest challenges, and volunteer work. Students learn Kanji and vocabulary using Kanji in a way that they can enjoy and develop skills to search for Kanji by themselves. This class is online.

In this class, students will delve deeper into Kanji radicals and essential components, expanding their Kanji vocabulary. The curriculum includes group and individual projects to enhance conversational skills in Japanese and become capable of interpreting between Japanese and English effortlessly, and build bilingual communication skills for everyday use and gain confidence in applying them effectively in real-world situations.

The projects for the 2023-2024 school year include creating and selling the Donguri Calendar, participating in the JASC Holiday Delight event, organizing and running the Fall kids camp, and assisting New Year’s calligraphy camp, and the New Year’s card contest.

Level4クラスは、自立して日本語を使用できる1年生から7年生の子供達向けのオンラインクラスです。少人数のクラスでは、プレゼンテーションや、ディスカッションなど、生徒主体のインタラクティブな授業が行われています。バイリンガルとして実社会で活躍する自信と技術を養うために、プロジェクトベースの自律学習とボランティア活動を授業に取り入れています。漢字学習にも力を入れており、漢字熟語や同音異義語など自分で調べる実践的な方法とツールについて知識を深める学習活動をおこなっています。

Yuri Yatsuda（谷津田 友里）

Ms. Yatsuda is a resident of Chicago since 2010, and a mother of two children. In 2016, she and Kaori Tabion founded a small Japanese study group for her own children and their friends, and taught them Japanese for 3 years. In 2019, she began teaching Japanese at Donguri program. Her goal for teaching is to deliver a Japanese language program that makes children motivated and excited.

Kaori Tabion（タビオン果織）

After 10 years of working in the healthcare industry, Ms.Tabion started with Ms. Yatsuda a study group teaching Japanese to their kids and friends. In 2017, she started Donguri Kai at JASC and has been teaching since. She is a member of an international research community of kanji teaching methods in multilingual children at Learn Japan.
